Alcuni ritrovamenti archeologici fanno ipotizzare l'esistenza di un insediamento sotto il dominio dell'Impero Romano. Nel IV secolo d.C. con l'evangelizzazione da parte del Santo Vescovo Eusebio si ritiene abbia inizio la plurisecolare dipendenza da Vercelli.Risale al VII secolo la costruzione della prima chiesa voluta dal nobile Emiliano II, feudatario del luogo.
Nel 1197 viene costituita in Borgo Franco (Comune Libero), con atto vergato dai Consignori di Vercelli.
Si riscontrano il nome (locus Villae Novae), la presenza di un rilevante castello, l'esistenza di Consignori proprietari del maniero.
Negli anni seguenti fu possesso di varie nobili famiglie della regione.
History
Hypothetical existence of a settlement under the dominion of the Roman Empire. In IV century B.C. with evangelisation by the Holy Bishop Eusebio it is considered that the many century dependence under Vercelli began.The construction of the first church commissioned by the nobleman Emiliano II, feudal lord of the site dates back to the VII century.
In 1197 it was established as Borgo Franco (Free Commune), with deed drawn up by the Consignori of Vercelli. Here we come across the name (locus Villae Novae), the presence of an important castle, the existence of the Consignori owners of the manor house.
